There are no unbeaten teams remaining in the Iowa Conference after Luther and Simpson split a twin bill this afternoon in Indianola. The Norse won game one 10-1 in five innings and then dropped a 5-3 decision in the nightcap. The two teams remained tied atop the league standings with records of 5-1.
In game one, Kelsey Weindruch drove in five runs. Weindruch was 3-for-4 that included a three-run home run during Luther's five-run third inning.
Lauran Snyder became Luther's all-time leader for career doubles. Snyder entered the game one behind Erin Michael (44) who played for the Norse from 2004-07. Snyder was 2-for-3 with both hits being doubles giving her a career total of 45.
Becca Girvan (14-2) allowed just four hits, walked six and struck out six in five innings of work.
Simpson scored all five of its runs in the second inning of game two. The Storm exploded for five of their nine hits in this frame knocking out starting pitcher Sarah Briggs (2-1).
The split gives #5 Luther an overall record of 22-4. Simpson is now 22-8.
The Norse travel to #3 Coe College on Tuesday, April 10. Start time for this double header is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Cedar Rapids.
