Luther posted its fifth win in a row defeating Loras College 71-47 in the Regents Center. The victory keeps the Norse atop the Iowa Conference standings with a mark of 9-1. The victory also secured a spot in the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament.
Trailing 42-39 with just under 11 minutes left in the game, Luther put together a 32-5 run en route to the victory. The Norse also stepped it up defensively holding the Duhawks to just 22 percent in the second frame.
Tyler Wedemeier produced a double-double with season highs of 16 points and 14 rebounds. He also was credited with three blocked shots.
Zach Matos-Pritchard and Dane Larson also tallied double digits with 13 and 12 respectively. John Androus was one point shy with nine.
The victory gives Luther an overall record of 15-3, matching the best start in school history since the 1983-84 campaign. The best start in school history was during the 1981-82 season when Luther was 23-3 before ending its season with a second round loss in the NCAA III National Tournament.
Loras lost its sixth in a row and is now 1-9 in league play, 4-15 overall.
Luther travels to Wartburg College this Saturday, Jan. 28 for a game that will begin at 4:00 p.m. Fans can catch all the action via audio stream.
