Luther remained atop the Iowa Conference standings after posting a 74-71 overtime victory over Simpson College this evening in Indianola. In a game that saw five lead changes and 15 ties, the Norse outscored the Storm 7-4 in the extra five minutes of play to secure the hard fought victory. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Norse who are now 6-1 overall, 3-0 in the IIAC.
Tim Merritt led the Norse with 23 points. Merritt tied the single game school record with seven three-point baskets in 14 attempts. His 23 points was also a career high.
Dane Larson and Tyler Wedemeier also reached double figures with 18 and 11 respectively. John Androus chipped in nine and collected a game high 10 rebounds.
The Norse shot 47 percent and won the battle of the boards 37-27. The Norse also took advantage of 17 offensive rebounds that led to 20 second chance points.
Luther will wrap up the pre-Christmas break portion of its schedule on Friday, Dec. 9, when it will travel to Northwestern College (MN) for a game that will begin at 8:00 p.m. This game will be video streamed by Northwestern.
