Luther advanced to the second round of the 2011 Men's NCAA III Soccer Championship after defeating North Park University 4-1 in front of a home crowd. Luther is hosting first and second matches this weekend, Nov. 12-13.
Johnathan Lawson scored two goals leading the Norse offensive attack. Lawson scored in the 32nd and 54th minutes, assisted by Brock Arend on his first goal and Michael Kustra and Adam Dane on his second. Oket Dakwa-Agyekum produced the game winner in the 36th minute also assisted by Dane. James Slauson, Jr. completed the scoring with a goal in the 73rd minute assisted by Michael Olson.
The Norse placed 10 shots on goal that included four in the first half and six in the second.
North Park's lone goal came in the 88th minute by Jakob Aronsson.
The wins gives Luther an overall record of 16-3-2. North Park ends its season with a mark of 11-4-3.
The Norse will face St. Olaf College tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 p.m. St. Olaf defeated Carroll University (WI) 3-1 in the first match this evening.
Back on Sept. 7, the Oles defeated the Norse 1-0 in Northfield. This match will be video streamed.
