The Luther women’s tennis team notched its seventh win of the season against just two defeats with a 9-0 sweep over Buena Vista on Friday, Sept. 16 in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Norse brought six players on the trip and all walked away with victories in both singles and doubles.
Lola White-Baer and Katie Howe paired for the first time and won (8-1) over Emily Gutschenritter and Haley Henrichs at No. 1 doubles, winning eight in a row after dropping the opening game. Cami Czech and Sarah Christopherson also teamed up for the first time this season and won (8-4) against Elizabeth Heffernan and Mary Jane Ferguson at No. 2 doubles. The Beavers won two games in a row to close within 5-4, but the Norse finished strong to secure the win. Adriana DePaolis and Mary Schmidt were impressive at No. 3 doubles, winning (8-0) against Kelli Kroepel and Tracey Ellis in the duo’s first match together.
The Norse won all six singles matches in straight sets to complete the day. Czech defeated Gutschenritter (6-2, 6-1) at No. 1 and White-Baer raced past Henrichs (6-1, 6-1) at No. 2. DePaolis played at No. 3 for the first time and earned a (6-2, 6-1) victory over Heffernan. Howe fought through a tight opening set to win (6-3, 6-2) at No. 4 against Ferguson. Christopherson won her match (6-1, 6-0) over Kroepel at No. 5 while Schmidt nailed down a (6-2, 6-1) decision against Ellis at No. 6.
