With half of the squad hitting the road to play at Cornell, the remaining members of the Luther women’s team hosted Loras in the home opener for the Norse. Luther won 9-0 to improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the IIAC.
Junior Katy Lindstrom led the way, winning at No. 1 doubles with junior Annie Whiteley and also earning a victory at No. 1 singles. Lindstrom and Whiteley were (8-5) winners against Ale Ruales and Rachel Weglarz. Lindstrom later beat Ruales (6-3, 6-3) in a well played match-up. Whiteley was also a singles winner, defeating Weglarz (6-2, 6-1) at No. 4.
Freshman Adriana DePaolis also had a quality showing for the Norse, teaming with junior Abby Landsness for an (8-4) win at No. 2 doubles against Est Mungai and Caroline Rainey and following with a (6-1, 6-0) decision over Carley Villano at No. 2 singles. Landsness was a double winner on the day as well, cruising past Sarah Alt by a (6-3, 6-0) score at No. 3 singles.
Sophomore Sarah Christopherson notched her first two varsity wins of the season against the Duhawks. She paired with freshman Taylor Bremer for an (8-3) against Emily Morrison and Rebecca Weglarz at No. 3 doubles and then beat Rainey (6-2, 6-1) at No. 5 singles. Freshman Mary Schmidt rallied from a one set deficit to win her varsity debut, edging Mungai (3-6, 6-1, (10-2) at No. 6 singles.
