The Luther women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to six in a row with a 7-2 win against Wartburg on Sunday, September 11 in Waverly, Iowa. It is the third IIAC victory for the Norse in as many tries and improves Luther’s overall mark to 6-1.
Cami Czech and Katy Lindstrom continued their superb play at No. 1 doubles with an (8-4) victory over Lindsay Greiner and Jenny Dallenbach. Czech and Lindstrom led 4-3 partway through the contest before pulling away and winning four of the last five games to close out the match. Annie Whiteley and Lola White-Baer cruised to a 7-0 lead at No. 3 doubles before defeating Brita Jensen and Michelle McKenzie by an (8-1) score. Wartburg won a long match at No. 2 doubles where Claire Evans and Leann Jenkins rallied to beat Luther’s Cassandra Chalhoub and Elise Allen (8-5).
Luther jumped out to first set victories in four of the six singles spots and clinched the team victory with wins from Abby Landsness (No. 6), Katie Howe (No. 5), and Lola White-Baer (No. 2). Landsness cruised to a (6-0, 6-1) win against Jensen, Howe played steady tennis in a (6-1, 6-1) victory against Jessica Behrer, and White-Baer was impressive in a (6-3, 6-1) decision over Evans. DePaolis picked up the sixth point for the Norse with a (6-3, 6-1) win over Jenkins at No. 4. Wartburg’s Dallenbach defeated Lindstrom (6-1, 6-2) at No. 3, but Allen rallied from a one set deficit to edge Greiner (4-6, 6-3, (10-2)) at No. 1 to tally the final point of the match for Luther.
