UW-River Falls handed Luther its first loss of the season, a 64-53 decision here in the Regents Center, in the final game of the four-team Luther Tip-off Classic.
After shooting 26 percent, Luther trailed River Falls 40-17 at halftime. The Norse played well in the second frame, connecting on 52.4 percent of their shots and outscored the Falcons 36-24. Luther also stepped it up defensively as it held River Falls to 26 percent from the field. Unfortunately the 23-point deficit after the first half was too much to overcome.
Taylor Johnson led all scorers with 18 points. Johnson was 7-of-14 from the field and 4-of-6 from the charity stripe. She also collected a game high 14 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Rachel Stenhaug also reached double digits with 15, seven of which came from the free throw line.
The loss levels Luther's overall record to 1-1. River Falls remains unbeaten with a mark of 3-0.
The Norse will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 when they will host UW-Platteville. This game will be video streamed and will begin at 7:00 p.m.
