Luther stayed atop the Iowa Conference standings after posting a 74-63 victory over Simpson College this afternoon in the Regents Center. The Norse put together two 20-plus point runs during this contest that helped secure the victory.
In the first half trailing 17-10 with just under seven minutes left on the clock, the Norse finished the half with a 22-14 run and held a 32-31 halftime lead.
In the second frame, with the score tied 47-47 with 11 minutes left in the game, Luther outscored Simpson 27-16 down the stretch.
Tyler Wedemeier produced a double-double with game highs of 22 points and 14 rebounds. He also was credited with four blocked shots and three assists. Dane Larson was next with 17 points and John Androus added 13. Michael Crocker chipped in eight off the bench that included two three-point buckets.
Simpson was led by the duo of Zack Barragan and Cornelius Mosby with 18 and 15 respectively. Elijah Cox and Chad Boston tallied nine points each.
The victory gives Luther an Iowa Conference mark of 10-3, 16-5 overall. Simpson fell to 6-6 in league play, 9-11 overall.
Luther will return to action one week from tonight when it will host Central College for its regular season home finale. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. This game will be video streamed.
