Luther advanced to the Iowa Tournament championship match for the first time since 2002 after defeating Wartburg College 2-0 this evening here in Decorah.
James Garcia-Prats (7) scored the game winner in the 27th minute on a free kick at the top of the box. Brock Arend (9) scored an insurance goal in the 89th minute assisted by James Slauson, Jr.
Goalkeeper Steve O'Meara turned away five shots en route to his 11 shutout of the season. The shutout was also Luther's 14th of the year, setting a single season school record. The old mark of 13 was set in both 1996 and 1998.
Luther is unbeaten in 15 matches increasing its overall record to 15-2-2. Wartburg's season comes to an end with a mark of 8-10-1.
Luther, the #1 seed of the tournament, will host #2 Loras on Saturday with a start time to be determined. Loras advanced to the championship match after defeaing #6 Central 2-0 tonight in Dubuque, The winner of the Saturday's match will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III National Tournament. The championship match will be video streamed.
