A 5-0 victory over Simpson College in front of the home crowd secured the 2011 Iowa Conference championship. The league title is the seventh in school history and first since 2002. The victory also secured the #1 seed for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament and will give the Norse home field advantage throughout the tournament.
James Garcia-Prats produced five points, scoring the game winning goal in the 11th minute and assisting on goals by Jonathan Lawson (3), Adam Dane (1) and Brock Arend (8). Saul Rosales (4) completed the scoring assited by JW Slauson in the 72nd minute. Michael Kustra was also credited with an assists on Arend's goal.
The win was Luther's 13th in a row and increased its overall record to 14-2-1. The shutout was Luther's 11th of the year and fourth in a row. Simpson fell to 5-3-0 in league play, 8-9-1 overall.
The Norse will wrap up the regular season schedule next Wednesday, Oct. 26, when it will host Coe College at 7:00 p.m. This match will be video streamed.
