Two nationally ranked teams squared off this evening in Decorah with the Iowa Conference lead on the line. #7 Loras entered tonight's contest unbeaten in 14 matches, while #24 Luther had won 11 in a row.
Thanks to goals by Brock Arend (7) and James Garcia-Prats (5), the Norse extended their streak to 12, with a 2-0 victory. Arend scored in the 27th minute assisted by Stephan Fernandes (2). Garcia-Prats' goal was unassisted.
Steve O'Meara turned away 10 shots on goal en route to his ninth shut out of the season. His goals against-average is now 0.31.
The victory over Loras was the first for the Norse since 2004 and snapped a seven-match losing streak in the series. The victory also places Luther alone atop the Iowa Conference standings with a mark of 6-0-0, 13-2-1. Loras fell to 5-1-1, 13-2-2.
The Norse have two matches remaining on the regular season schedule both at home. The Norse host Simpson College (5-2-0) on Saturday, Oct. 22, for a match that is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. On Wednesday, Oct. 26, the Norse host Coe College (1-5-0) at 7:00 p.m. Both matches will be video streamed.
