James Garcia-Prats scored the game winner in the 47th minute on a penalty kick, as Luther defeated Wartburg 1-0 tonight in Waverly. His goal was the third of the year and first game winner.
The victory was Luther's seventh in a row and fifth shutout during this stretch. The victory also snapped an 11-match losing streak to the Knights that dated back to Oct. 15, 2003.
Steve O'Meara was busy in front of the nets turning away all 10 shots he faced.O'Meara has now lowered his goals-against-average to 0.37 and has posted five shutouts.
Luther, ranked 10th in the NSCAA Continental Tire North Region, is now 8-2-1. The Norse also sit atop the Iowa Conference standings with a mark of 2-0-0. Wartburg fell to 4-4-0, 1-1-0.
The Norse will return to league play on Wednesday, Oct. 5 when they will host University of Dubuque at 5:00 p.m. This match will be video streamed weather permitting.
