Luther improved to 7-2-1 and posted its sixth win in a row after defeating UW-Platteville 4-1 this evening here in Decorah.
In a match that saw 31 fouls called, the Norse outshot the Pioneers 22-14. Luther also held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks all coming in the second half.
Mark Fernandes (4), who was named the Iowa Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, gave Luther a 1-0 lead on a goal at 41:51 assisted by Jason Block (2). Block (3) scored what proved to the be the game winner on a penalty kick with just 47 seconds left in the first half.
Michael Olson (1) in the 75th minutes and Brock Arend (3) in the 89th completed the Norse scoring. Olson was assisted by Dane Huinker (1) and Oketekyie Dakwa-Agyekum (1) and James Slauson, Jr. assisted on Arend's goal.
Steve O'Meara, who is ranked 40th in the NCAA III for goals-against-average (0.40), tallied five saves.
Luther returns to Iowa Conference action on Friday night with it will travel to Wartburg College. Match time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
