Luther kicked off its Iowa Conference schedule with an impressive 5-0 victory over Cornell College in Mount Vernon this afternoon. The Norse scored two in the first half and three in the second en route to their fifth win in a row.
Mark Fernandes, who scored his first goal of the season in the 1-0 victory over Carleton College this past Wednesday night, scored the final two goals of the match in the 74th and 81st minutes.
Dane Huinker, scored what proved to be the match winner unassisted at 21:56. Michael Kustra (2) scored the final goal of the first 45 minutes of action assisted by Johnny Lawson (1).
James Garcia-Prats (2) found the back of the Rams net at 68:38 and also assisted (3) on Fernandes first goal.
Steve O'Meara and Peter Wright combined for a team shutout, the fifth of the season by the Norse.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 6-2-1. Cornell fell to 1-7.
The Norse will host UW-Platteville on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m. This match will be video streamed weather permitting.
