Luther defeated Simpson 58-51 tonight in the Regents Center and swept the two-game season series. The Norse outscored the Storm 35-27 in the second half after entering the halftime locker room trailing by one 24-23.
The Norse blistered the nets in the second frame connecting on 52.2 percent, that included a 6-of-11 performance from behind the three-point line.
Jake Martin led all scorers producing a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. His rebound total tied his career high. Cody Kliethermes knocked down four treys en route to 14 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Cale Austin was next with seven.
The victory gives Luther a record of 3-6, 7-13 overall. Simpson fell to 1-8, 6-14. More importantly for the Norse, they move into a three-way tie for fifth place with Loras and Central. The top-six teams will qualify for the Iowa Conference Tournament that will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Luther returns to action on Saturday when it will host league leading Buena Vista University (8-1, 15-5). Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
