Luther pulled to within one game of first place thanks to a 79-72 victory over Buena Vista University this afternoon in the Regents Center.
Leading 42-29 at halftime, Luther needed to fight off a scrappy Buena Vista team that fell behind by 15 midway through the second half. With Luther leading 66-51, Buena Vista put together an 18-5 run and pulled two withing two (71-69). It proved to be as close as the Beavers would get the rest of the way.
Four Norse tallied double digits led by Meagan Koepnick who scored a game high 16. Kylie Romeo added 15, while Moran Lonning and Tayler Jenks finished with 13 and 12 respectively. Carrie Kilen led all rebounders with nine and Lonning dished out a game high six assists.
Buena Vista was led by the trio of Lexi Fisher with 15, Jasmine Demers with 14 and Becca Pennington with 12.
The win gives Luther a conference mark of 7-3, 17-4 overall. Buena Vista fell to 2-8, 7-14. The victory was key for the Norse as they remain in the three-way tie for second place with Coe and Loras. Coe defeated league leaders Dubuque 70-56 this afternoon in Dubuque.
Next Wednesday, Luther travels to Loras. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
