Luther remained unbeaten in Iowa Conference play after defeating University of Dubuque 6-3 this afternoon in Decorah. The Norse swept doubles play, but split with the Spartans in singles action.
In doubles, Claire Christian and Jackie Cychosz battled to an (8-6) victory over 2016 Iowa Conference MVP Arantxa Martinez and Madeline Parker. Anna Pearson and Britta Pressler, who were playing together for the first time this year, won at No. 2 (8-1). At No. 3, Kelsey Kruse and Devon Bourget posted an 8-4 victory.
Claire Christian at No. 3, Britta Pressler at No. 5 and Kelsey Kruse at No. 6, all posted straight set victories securing the Luther victory.
Up next, a date with Coe College on Sunday, Sept. 17, here in Decorah. Since 2002 either Luther or Coe have been crowned the Iowa Conference Champions. Luther has won seven titles and Coe has won eight during this time span. Last year, Luther defeated Coe during the regular season 5-4 and claimed its 26th league title. The loss snapped a string of five consecutive titles by the Kohawks. Start time for this match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
