Luther and UW-Stout met at the Rochester Dome in Rochester, Minn., for the season opening twin bill for both clubs. The Norse posted a 9-2 victory in game one, but lost to the Blue Devils 7-4 in the night cap.
In game one, Luther scored twice in the fifth inning and five times in the top of the seventh, en route to the victory. Freshman Carli Radil - pronounced Radgel - went 3-for-4 with four RBI in her collegiate debut. Radil singled in the fourth, hit a two-run double in the fifth and finished the game with a two run home run in the seventh.
Becca Girvan went the distance allowing two runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking seven.
In game two, the Blue Devils secured a split, exploded for four runs in the fourth and two in the fifth with the game tied 1-1 after three. The Norse threatened in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with just one out, but were only able to produce one run.
Katie Wieland and Radil led the Norse attack as both went 2-for-4 at the plate. Wieland drove in two runs with a two-run home run in the fifth.
The Norse will return to action Tuesday, March 19, when they will return to the Rochester Dome to face Bethel University (MN). First pitch of this non-conference double header is scheduled for 10:00 p.m.
