Luther took sole possession of first place in the Iowa Conference defeating Wartburg 75-61 at Levick Arena. Both teams entered tonight's game tied atop the league standings with only one loss.
Luther took its first and final lead four minutes into the first half. Defensively, the Norse held the Knights to 35 percent, that included a 6-for-23 effort in the second frame. The Norse also had a balanced offensive attack that shot 52 percent and had 10 different players score.
Tyler Wedemeier and Zach Matos-Pritchard led the way with 18 and 15 points respectively. The duo also led the team with six rebounds each. Cale Austin was one point shy of double digits with nine, all coming from behind the three-point line.
Wartburg was led by Mitchell Murphy with 12 points and Eddie Diemer with 10. Diemer had to leave the game following an injury at the midway point of the first half.
Luther (6-1, 13-5) will return home for the first time in 10 days for a rematch with University of Dubuque Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Dubuque (6-2, 14-4) handed Luther its only loss in the first half of the IIAC schedule, a 76-73 decision in overtime this past Monday night.
