The Luther women’s tennis team won its second match of the day by an identical 8-1 margin, this time defeating Buena Vista for its ninth win of the season. The Norse led 2-1 after doubles and then won three super tie-breaker matches in singles to account for the final margin.
Katy Lindstrom and Annie Whiteley cruised to an (8-2) win over Elizabeth Heffernan and Kelli Kroepel, giving Luther a quick lead in the match. The other two doubles matches were tightly contested with each team scoring a point. Olivia Heitz and Megan Wachholz topped Haley Henrichs and Tasha Nelson by an (8-5) score at No. 2 to give Luther its second point of the match, but the Beavers struck back with a win at No. 3 by Kassidy Ipsen and Samantha Kavan to make it 2-1 heading into singles. They knocked off Luther’s Adriana DePaolis and Kylie Kruse (8-6) in the third doubles spot.
DePaolis quickly rebounded with a straight set victory in singles, beating Nelson (6-1, 6-4) at No. 3. Hailey Johnson also recorded a straight set win at No. 4, defeating Amanda Kavan (7-5, 6-2). Taylor Bremer won (7-5, 6-1) against Samantha Kavan at No. 6, giving the Norse a trio of straight set wins.
The final three matches all split sets, but Luther was able to post victories each time to complete the scoring. Lindstrom fought off a charge from Henrichs at No. 1, winning (6-2, 3-6, (10-6). Jenna Myers rallied to win (4-6, 6-1, (10-7) against Heffernan at No. 2. Molly Brown made a huge comeback at No. 5, eventually winning (1-6, 7-6, (10-4)) over Ipsen.
