With half of the team playing in Green Bay, Wis., the rest of the Luther men’s tennis squad played the first home conference match of the season against the Beavers of Buena Vista University. The Norse only dropped 10 games in doubles on the way to a doubles sweep. That momentum carried over into singles play where Luther dispatched Buena Vista in straight sets at each of the six singles positions to tally a 9-0 sweep.
Samuel Cychosz and Kenny Goins were (8-4) winners over Christopher Habermann and Kyle Shade at No. 1 doubles while the No. 2 pairing of Matt Knutson and Sam Buffington and the No. 3 duo of Aaron Ford and Bjørn Norderhaug each won by an (8-3) margin. Knutson and Buffington defeated Drake Swanson and Kyle Weeden while Ford and Norderhaug knocked off Justin Buzzard and John Bieber.
Buffington and Norderhaug each tallied (6-0, 6-0) decisions in singles with Buffington beating Weeden at No. 4 and Norderhaug racing past Bieber at No. 6. Ford won his match (6-2, 6-0) at No. 4 against Swanson while Knutson earned a (6-1, 6-2) victory over Shade at No. 2. Cychosz picked up his first career victory at No. 1 with a hard fought (6-3, 6-4) win over Habermann. Goins closed out the scoring for the Norse with a (6-4, 6-4) decision against Buzzard at No. 3.
