In a crucial game for two teams battling for one of the final two spots remaining for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament, it was Wartburg that prevailed, defeating Luther 71-69.
Down 11 (61-50) with 11 minutes remaining, Luther put together a 13-0 run and retook the lead at the 5:37 mark. The Norse led by as many as seven in the first stanza and held a 44-43 lead at intermission. The Norse held a three-point lead (69-66) with just under two minutes left in the game, but were outscored 5-0 by the Knights down the stretch.
Logan Hjerleid and Nellie Nelson led the offensive attack producing 14 and 13 points respectively. Hjerleid was 5-of-10 from the field that included a 4-for-7 performance from behind the arch. Taylor Johnson and Lyndsi Woolems both chipped in eight. Johnson led all rebounders with 11.
Alyssa Sager paced the Knights with a game high 22 points.
The loss drops Luther to 2-10 in the Iowa Conference and 11-12 overall. Wartburg moved into sixth place in the league standings with a mark of 3-9, 9-14 overall.
Luther will be at home on Wednesday, Feb. 19 when it will host Central College at 6:00 p.m.
