Luther improved to 1-1 in the Iowa Conference defeating Wartburg 87-80 this afternoon in the Regents Center. The win snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Knights.
Luther held a 51-41 halftime lead, but was outscored 39-36 in the second stanza. The difference in the game was three-pointers as both teams connected on 27 field goal attempts, but Luther made 12 treys to the Knights five. The Norse also dominated the boards 51-34.
Five Norse tallied double figures led by Anna Madrigal who scored a career high 15 points. Taylor Johnson and Nellie Nelson each scored 14, while Meagan Koepnick and Haley Kirkpatrick chipped in 13 and 11 points respectively.
The Knights were led by Alyssa Sager with a game high 21 and Bobbi Burrows with 20.
Luther is now 10-3 overall. Wartburg fell to 1-1 in league play and 6-7 overall.
Next week the Norse will be on the road beginning with a date at University of Dubuque on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
