Luther improved its dual meet record to 7-1 after dominating Morningside College (186-33) and College of St. Mary (187-33) in a double dual this afternoon. This was the final home meet of the season.
Clare Slagel and Zoe Johnson headlined today's performances. Slagel shattered the four-year old school record in the 1,000 freestyle. Slagel won the event by nearly 16 seconds, posting a time of 10:37.89. Katheryn Sundry held the old mark of 10:46.52 set Feb. 23. 2008. Slagel also won the 200 backstroke (2:08.66) by nine seconds. Shel completed the afternoon swimming the first leg of the victorious 400 freestyle relay (3:51.64). Emily Anderson, Chloe Benjamin and Margaret Yapp swam the last three legs of the race.
Johnson, who won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions, set a new pool record of 264.22 (6 dives). This mark is also an NCAA Regional qualifying score.
Jackie Hughes also posted two individual titles. Hughes won the 200 IM (2:19.08) and the 200 breaststroke (2:36.74).
Individual first place finishes were recorded by Anderson in the 200 freestyle, Erin Connolly in the 50 freestyle, Sarah Pospisil in teh 200 fly, Yapp in the 100 freestyle, and Elizabeth Reed in the 500 freestyle.
The Norse will return to action Feb. 13-15 when they will travel to Principia College, Elsah, Ill., for the Liberal Arts Championships.
