The Luther College men’s tennis team kept its winning streak intact with an 8-1 victory over Wartburg. A doubles sweep gave the Norse early momentum on the way to a third straight victory against an IIAC opponent.
Matt Bellio and Sean Brown won again at No. 3 doubles in convincing fashion, defeating Dayton Stevens and Josh Trueblood by an (8-2) score. Ramesh Karki and Quinn Foley were also sharp, picking up an (8-1) victory against Yusuf Chowdry and Brian Rasmussen at No. 1. Nick Mozena and James Ayer held on to a one break advantage for much of the match, tallying an (8-5) victory over Eric Hilpert and Blayne Willadsen at No. 2, making it 3-0 in favor of the Norse.
Torstein Jystad continued his superb singles play on the day, winning (6-0, 6-2) over Stevens at No. 5. Mozena was a (6-2, 6-1) winner against Rasmussen at No. 2 and Ayer put together a (6-2, 6-4) victory over Willadsen at No. 4. Karki dropped his opening set at No. 1, but responded very well to win (2-6, 6-0, (10-1)) over Chowdry. Foley also went to a deciding third set super tie-breaker before prevailing (7-6, 4-6, (10-5)) against Trueblood at No. 6. The Knights won the final match of the day as Hilpert defeated Bellio (6-4, 7-5) at No. 3.
