It was a shoot out in the valley in the fifth annual Uff-Dah Bowl between Luther and St. Olaf College. The winner gets to take home Olga the garden Gnome. For the first time since the series began in 2010, Luther was able to run to the scorers table and collect the coveted prize.
Erin Wilson scored the game winner on a header off a corner kick by Ellie Bunz in the 87th minute that secured the 5-4 victory. The goal was her second header of the game as this duo also connected in the 26th minute that gave Luther a 3-1 advantage.
Melisse Chasse gave the Norse an early 1-0 lead 51 seconds into the contest unassisted. Erika Balk followed with a goal at 14:20 assisted by Lauren Hughes. Chasse scored her sixth goal of the season at 50:53 assisted by Balk that gave the Norse what looked like a comfortable 4-2 advantage.
St. Olaf answered with goals in the 71st and 75th minutes that leveled the match at 4-4.
Luther tallied 17 shots on goal compared to St. Olaf's six. The Norse also had six corner kicks to the Oles five.
The victory snapped a six-match losing streak to the Oles. Luther, ranked No. 22 in the nation and off to its best start in school history, remains undefeated with a record of 9-0.
The Norse begin Iowa Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 27 when they will travel to Coe College. This match will begin at 5:00 p.m.
