Luther ran its mark to 5-0 overall and 3-0 at home with a 7-2 victory over Grandview in today's home nightcap. Once again, Luther tallied a pair of points in doubles to grab a 2-1 lead. The Norse pulled out straight set wins at five positions to secure the win.
Matt Knutson and Sam Buffington cruised to an (8-0) victory against Ryan Gilbert and Tyler Johnson at No. 2 doubles. Aaron Ford and Bjørn Norderhaug quickly followed with an (8-1) win over Phil Kruzan and Luke Norris, extending the Norse advantage to 2-0. Grandview tallied its first point when Anthony Forcucci and Jordan Feige edged Sam Cychosz and Kenny Goins by an (8-6) margin at No. 1.
Leading 2-1, the Norse won five of the six singles matches in straight sets before Grandview won the final match in a third set super tie-breaker to complete the scoring. Norderhaug won in routine fashion, defeating Norris (6-0, 6-0) at No. 6. Buffington came away with his fourth victory of the day, beating Gilbert (6-1, 6-1) at No. 4. Knutson also completed a perfect 4-0 day on the court with a (6-1, 6-4) win over Feige at No.2. Ford was the third member of the Norse to finish with four wins on the day, defeating Kruzan (6-1, 6-3) at No. 5. Cychosz won his second match of the day at No. 1 singles, grabbing a (6-2, 6-1) victory against Forcucci. Grandview’s Johnson held off Goins by a count of (6-3, 4-6, (10-4)) in the final match of the day.
