Luther and Simpson wrapped up their four-game series splitting today's double header here in the valley. The Storm won game one 3-2 and the Norse won the nightcap 10-2.
In game one, Simpson's Gage Reis allowed just five hits, two coming off the bat of Brian Paulsrud, as he led the Storm to the victory. Reis faced 27 batters, allowed two unearned runs, struck out four and did not issue a walk.
The Storm scored twice in the first and posted the game winner in the top of the seventh. In the seventh, following a lead off single by Josh Pirtle, Tyler Craig moved Pirtle to second on a sacrifice bunt. The very next batter, Michael Chia drove in Pritle with a single to right field.
Phillip Lapointe pitched a solid 6 1/3 innings for the Norse. He allowed three runs on 10 hits and walked three.
In the nightcap the Norse bats came alive as they tallied 10 runs on 14 hits. The Norse blew this game open with four runs in the second and five in the eighth.
Matt McKinney picked up his first win of the season. McKinney pitched eight innings, allowed two unearned runs on four hits, walked six and struck out five.
The split gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 6-14, 12-18 overall.
The Norse return to action on Monday, April 21 when they will host St. Mary's University (MN) for a 1x9 game that is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
