Luther swept UW-Stevens Point 8-0 (5) and 11-1 (6) in Decorah this afternoon. This twin bill was originally scheduled to be played in Stevens Point but was moved to Decorah because of field conditions on the Pointers home diamond. The agreement was made prior to today's games that the Pointers would be the home team for both games.
In game one, Becca Girvan (13-4) threw a three hit shut out. Girvan faced 18 batters, walked one and struck out three.
The Norse put four runs on the scoreboard in their first at-bat. Kelsey Weindruch drove in two runs with a double to left field. The very next batter, Alise Miller, hit a two-run home run to right center field.
Luther tallied 11 runs on 14 hits in the nightcap. Leading 5-0 after five, the Norse exploded for six runs in the sixth.
Weindruch had a big game going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Weindruch drove in two runs in both the third and sixth frames with doubles to left. Huber, Miller Miranda McCay and Carli Radil all had two hits. Radil hit her fourth home run of the season, a solo blast to left field in the fifth.
Erica Mankse (8-1) did not allow a run in 4 1/3 innings of work. Mankse spread three hits, walked two and struck out two. Girvan worked the final inning and two-thirds.
The two wins gives Luther an overall record of 23-7. UW-Stevens Point fell to 17-11.
The Norse will return to Iowa Conference action Wednesday, April 24 when they will travel to Loras College. This double header will begin at 3:00 p.m.
