University of Dubuque defeated Luther 72-66 this evening in the Regents Center. The loss, plus the combination of both Loras and Buena Vista posting victories, dropped the Norse to the No. 6 seed for the Iowa Conference Tournament that begins next Tuesday, Feb. 25. Luther will travel to No. 3 Loras on Tuesday for a quarterfinal game that will begin at 7:00 p.m.
After trailing by as many at 14 points in the second half, the Norse battled back to tie the game (56-56) with four minutes remaining. The Spartans responded by outscoring the Norse 16-10 down the stretch en route to the victory.
Luther shot 37 percent that included a 6-for-30 effort from behind the arch. The Spartans, who snapped a three-game losing streak, connected on 47 percent of their attempts and were led by Chris Frazier and Andre Norris who tallied 23 and 20 points respectively.
Four Norse reached double figures led by John Androus who wrapped up his home career with 16 points. Jake Martin, Michael Crocker and Cale Austin all chipped in 10.
The loss gives Luther a regular season Iowa Conference mark of 7-7, 15-10 overall. Dubuque will be the No. 2 seed for the tournament and will host the winner of the Luther/Loras match-up on Thursday, Feb. 27. The Spartans finished the regular season 10-4 in league play, 21-4 overall.
