The Luther College men’s tennis team saw its 2012-13 campaign come to an end with a title match loss to Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Kohawks held on for a close victory at No. 2 doubles to grab the doubles sweep and then won a pair of singles match to earn the IIAC AQ bid into the NCAA DIII National Tournament.
Nick Mozena and James Ayer traded several breaks with Coe’s Riley Galbraith and Yasushi Inoue at No. 2 doubles with the match eventually heading into the deciding tie-break before the Kohawks earned a (9-8 (1)) victory. Coe won by an (8-3) margin at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Ayer dropped a (6-0, 6-0) match to Curtis Newman at No. 4, giving Coe its fourth point of the match. Quinn Foley fought hard at No. 6, but dropped a (6-2, 6-4) decision to Ryan Hickman to give Coe a 5-0 lead, ending the title match.
The Norse finished the year with an overall mark of 14-10 with a 6-1 record in the IIAC. Luther is currently ranked No. 15 in the Central Region with a final poll to be released in early June.
