Luther remains in third place in the Iowa Conference standings after defeating Wartburg 79-66 this afternoon in Levick Arena. The loss was the fourth in a row at home for the Knights.
The Norse won the battle of the boards and held the Knights to 37.7 percent. Trailing 30-28 at intermission, the Norse exploded for 51 points in the second frame, connecting on 14 of 28 attempts.
John Androus led all scorers with 24 points. Jake Martin was next with 20 and Michael Crocker added 11. Crocker was 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. Aaron Huber was one point shy of double digits with nine.
Eddie Diemer led the Knights with 18 points, while Thomas Perkins chipped in 10.
The victory gives Luther a league record of 7-5, 15-8 overall. Wartburg fell to 5-7 in the IIAC, 11-12 overall.
Luther returns home on Wednesday, Feb. 19 and will host league leaders Central College (10-2, 17-6). Central defeated Dubuque this afternoon 80-74 in a battle for first place. Game time on Wednesday is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
