Loras College swept the four-game series defeating Luther 3-2 and 14-11 in Dubuque this afternoon. The two losses drops Luther's Iowa Conference record to 3-7. Loras moved into a tie for first place with Wartburg with a mark of 7-3.
In game one, the Norse scored two runs on eight hits. Andy Briggs, who was 3-for-4, scored both of Luther's runs. After leading off with a single in the third, three batters later, Briggs touched home plate when Brian Paulsrud reached on an error by the Duhawks third baseman.
The Duhawks scored one in the second and two in the fourth en route to the victory. Alec Knop was credited with his first loss of the season despite having another solid outing on the mound. Knop threw his third complete game, spreading seven hits, walking two and striking out seven.
In the nightcap, trailing the Norse 8-3 heading into the bottom half of the sixth, the Duhawks scored 11 runs on seven hits and also had help from the Norse who committed three errors.
Luther tallied 19 hits and scored runs in all but two innings. The Norse scored five runs in the fourth, three coming on a home run to right field by Rojer. Rojer finished the game going 5-for-6 with five RBI. Zach Lashbrook was also 5-for-6 with an RBI.
The Norse return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they will host the Knights of Wartburg College for a twin bill that will begin at 1:00 p.m.
