Luther's hopes of securing the number two seed for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament came to an end tonight as the Norse were defeated by the Dutch of Central College, 81-78 in overtime.
A three-point basket by Central's Nile Eckermann with 2.9 seconds left, leveled the score at 69-69, sending the game into the extra frame. Luther jumped out to a five point lead (74-69) two minutes into overtime, but were outscored 12-4 down the stretch.
Jake Martin lead a trio of double digit scorers with 20. John Androus tallied 19 and Cale Austin chipped in 12. Luther did the majority of its damage from behind the arch connecting on 11 of 24 attempts.
Colby Taylor and Kevin Kaerwer lead the Dutch with 24 and 21 points respectively.
With the loss the Norse fall into a three-way tie for third with Buena Vista and Loras with a mark of 7-6, 15-9 overall. Central clinched the 2014 title and is now 11-2 in league play and 18-6 overall.
The Norse will host University of Dubuque for the final regular season game of the year on Saturday at 4 p.m.
