Luther remains as one of two teams unbeaten in the Iowa Conference, following a hard fought 60-57 victory over Coe College in Cedar Rapids.Wartburg is the other team, after posting an 88-77 victory over Buena Vista in Storm Lake.
The Norse never trailed in the game and led by as many as 12 points in the first half and nine in the second. Coe pulled to within two (59-57), with a little over two minutes to play, thanks to a 10-3 run. A free throw by John Androus with 12 ticks left on the clock, combined with a solid defensive effort that forced a last second three-point attempt, secured the victory. Luther played solid defense the entire evening, holding Coe to 38.3 percent and winning the battle of the boards 31-26.
Four Norse tallied double digits led by Zach Matos-Pritchard with 15. Tyler Wedemeier added 13, followed by Michael Crocker and John Androus with 12 and 10 respectively.
Coe, who fell to 2-3 in league play, was led by David Mataloni with 15. Max Schmarzo added 14 and Seth Light was credited with 12.
The victory was the sixth in a row for the Norse who are now 5-0 in the IIAC, 12-4 overall.
Luther travels to University of Dubuque (2-3, 12-4) on Monday, Jan. 21 for a game that will begin at 8:00 p.m.
