Luther and Dubuque wrapped up the Iowa Conference regular season schedule splitting today's final two games of their four-game series. The Spartans won game one 8-1 and Luther won the nightcap 12-0 in seven innings.
In game one, Dubuque put one run on the board in the first, four in the third and three more in the fourth en route to the victory. The Spartans tallied 10 hits, eight off Norse starter Matt McKinney who was credited with the loss.
Andy Briggs drove in the lone Luther run in the fifth on a single to left field.
In the nightcap, Luther exploded for 12 runs on 11 hits and secured the 10-run victory with a six-run sixth. Nine of the Norse runs were unearned as the Spartans committed five errors.
Blake Peterson (3-3) had his best outing of the season. Peterson went the distance on the mound and allowed four hits, walked one and struck out six.
Both teams finished the Iowa Conference schedule with records of 9-19. The Norse are now 16-23 overall.
Luther completes the 2014 campaign on Monday when it is scheduled to host Hamline University (1x9) at 2:30 p.m.
