Luther dropped the first two games of the four-game home series with Central 4-2, 11-7 this afternoon.
In game one, the Dutch scored four runs on five hits, scoring twice in the second and once in both the sixth and seventh frames. Luther tied the game at 2-2 scoring its only runs of the ball game in the bottom of the fourth.
Alec Knop (1-6) went the distance on the mound. Knop gave up five hits, walked one and struck out three.
Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, Luther scored four runs on three hits and took a short lived lead 4-3 in the nightcap. The Dutch responded with three runs in the sixth, two in both the seventh and eighth and added one more in the ninth en route to the victory.
Mitch Knippenberg and Paulsrud tallied seven of Luther's 13 hits. Knippenberg was 4-for-5 with two RBI, while Paulsrud was 3-for-5 and scored twice. Zach Hendrikson and Matt Larson also drove in two runs and Briggs drove in one.
Alex Byom (6-2) was credited with the loss. Byom allowed eight runs on five hits, walked four and struckout six.
The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow. The double header will begin at 1:00 p.m.
