Sunday, March 25

No. 9 Luther vs. No. 4 Williams (MA): It was a battle of top-10 teams in today's first of two games at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. Luther defeated Williams 3-2.The win gives Luther an overall record of 9-1. The loss gives Williams a record of 9-3.

Luther struck first in the bottom of the second when Megan Bonnett produced a two-out double that scored both Blake Banowetz and Kaeli Kovarik who was pinch running for Addy Pender. 

The Norse added what proved to be the game winner in the fifth. After leading off with a double, Anna Strien scored from second base on a sacrifice fly to right field by Natalie Stockman. During the play, the Williams right fielder was running backwards when she made the catch, fell down and was not able to relay the ball to home plate in time to catch Strien. 

Williams pulled to within one scoring two in the sixth. The first three batters loaded the bases with singles. The Norse got out of the jam with a 4U - 4-3 double play that scored a run. The next batter drove in the second run of the frame with a single, before All-American pitcher Samantha Bratland struck out Riley Salvo to end the inning.

Bratland went the distance in the circle allowing two runs on four hits. She walked three and struck out five will improving to 5-1.

Luther vs. St. Olaf: Luther wrapped up day one at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida with an 8-7 come-from-behind victory over St. Olaf College in eight innings.

Trailing the Oles 7-3 after four innings, the Norse tied the game scoring four runs on six hits in the fifth. Neither team was able to break the tie in regulation so the game was decided with the international tie breaker rule in place. Each team begins its at-bat in the extra innings with a runner on second base and no outs. The final batter from the previous inning is the runner that is placed on second and then the inning begins.

Luther was the visitors on the scoreboard and placed Blake Banowetz on second to start the eighth. Following strike outs by Addy Pender and Sierra Freeland, Megan Bonnett drove in Banowetz with a single, that proved to be the game winner, as the Oles were retired in order in the bottom of the frame.

Samantha Bratland picked up the victory in relief. Bratland pitched the final four innings and held the Oles scoreless. Bratland, who is now 6-1, gave up just two hits, walked one and struck out two. 

Bailey Victoria and Ashley Burrows both drove in two runs. Victoria hit a two-run home run in the third and Burrows RBIs came in the fifth with a double to center field. Burrows double was the third of four by the Norse in the fifth. Banowetz and Pender started the four-run rally hitting back-to-back doubles. Anna Strien followed Burrows shot with a double to right-center field.

Monday, March 26

No. 9 Luther 8, D'Youville College (NY) 0 in Five Innings: In the first of three games scheduled today at the PFX Spring Games, No. 9 Luther rolled to an 8-0 victory over D'Youville College (NY) in five innings. The Norse scored their eight runs on nine hits, posting four in the first and two each in the third and fourth innings.

Natalie Stockman got her first collegiate start in the circle and threw a three-hit shutout. Stockman faced 20 batters, walked one and struck out four. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring twice and driving in one run.

Blake Banowetz drove in three runs with a 2-for-2 performance. Banowetz drove in two if her three runs with a triple in the first frame. Lead-off hitter Ashley Burrows also had a multiple hit game going 2-for-3 and scoring twice.

No. 9 Luther 5, Union College (NY) 0: Two down and one to go. Luther defeated Union College (NY) in today's second of three games at the PFX Spring games by a final of 5-0.

Courtney Cooper improved to 5-0 tossing a complete game shutout. Cooper, who retired the first eight batters she faced, spread four hits over seven innings, walked one and struck out seven.

Bailey Victoria, Blake Banowetz and Bailey Hocker all had three hits. Victoria drove in two runs with a double in the fourth, while Hocker drove in a run with a double in the fifth. Hocker and Natalie Stockman were both credited with one RBI.

The win was Luther's eighth in a row and increased its overall record to 12-1.

The Norse will now play UW-Stevens Point at 2:00 p.m. EST. This is a make-up game that was not played during Luther's trip to Greenville, Ill. on March 11 due to weather conditions. The Norse won the first of the two schedule games 9-4.

No. 9 Luther versus UW-Stevens Point: Luther capped off a busy three-game day with an 11-2 victory over UW-Stevens Point. This game was a make-up from March 11 when the two teams faced each other in Greenville, Ill., and were able to get game one of two played before weather shut the door on game two.

The Norse exploded for 17 hits and put crooked numbers on the scoreboard in the fourth, fifth and seven innings. Sierra Freeland, Natalie Stockman, Addy Pender, Annie See and Megan Bonnett all drove in two runs. Bonnett led the offensive attack going 4-for-4. Stockman, See, Ashley Burrows, Anna Strien and Blake Banowetz were all credited with two hits.

Samantha Bratland went the distance in the circle en route to her seventh win against just one loss. Bratland allowed two runs on four hits, walked two and struck out one.

The win was the ninth in a row for the Norse who will have tomorrow off. On Wednesday the 28th, Luther will resume action with games against the College of Mount Saint Vincent (NY) and Thomas College (ME).

Wednesday, March 28

No. 8 Luther versus College of Mount Saint Vincent (NY): Luther rolled to a 9-0 victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent (NY) in today's first of two games at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.

Leading 3-0 entering the top of the fifth, the Norse exploded for six runs on six hits, that secured the five inning victory. Natalie Stockman, who was 2-for-3 with three RBI, highlighted the frame with a two-run home run. Blake Banowetz, who was also 2-for-3, drove in both of her RBI in the fifth on a bases loaded single.

Anna Strien (2-for-2), Annie See (2-for-2) and Megan Bonnett (2-for-3) completed the list of five Norse that produced multiple hits.

Samantha Bratland improved to 8-1 allowing no runs on two hits. Bratland faced 17 batters and struck out nine.

The win was the 10th in a row for the Norse who are now 14-1 overall. They will wrap up today's action against Thomas College (ME) at 11:30 a.m. EST.

No. 8 Luther versus Thomas College (ME): Luther improved to 15-1 after defeating Thomas College (ME) 8-0 in five innings in the second of two games today at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The win was the 11th in the row for the Norse.

Courtney Cooper tossed her third shut out of the year and improved to 6-0 in the circle. Cooper faced 19 batters, allowed two hits, walked two and struck out three. 

Ashley Burrows and Anna Strien drove in four of Luther eight runs. Burrows had RBIs in the fourth and fifth frames, while Strien drove in two runs with a triple in the fifth. Natalie Stockman and Addy Pender were also credited with an RBI each. Burrows, Strien and Megan Bonnett all had two hits.

Luther ended the game in the fifth frame scoring five runs on six hits. The Norse entered the inning with a 3-0 lead. The five inning victory was the sixth of the year and eighth game that has been decided prior to the seventh inning.

Tomorrow, Luther will face UW-Whitewater at 9:00 a.m. and UW-Stevens Point at 11:30 a.m. EST.

Thursday, March 29

No. 8 Luther versus No. 18 UW-Whitewater: Luther defeated UW-Whitewater 8-3 in the first of two games today at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The win gives Luther an overall record of 16-1, while UW-Whitewater fell to 7-6.

The Norse broke this game open scoring five runs on six hits in the bottom of the third. Bailey Victoria drove in two runs, while Natalie Stockman, Megan Bonnett and Bailey Hocker all drove in one.  The Norse added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Multiple hits were produced by Stockman (2-4), Victoria (2-3), and Bonnett (2-3).

Samantha Bratland went the distance in the circle. Bratland allowed three runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out six.

The win was the 12th in the row for the Norse who will wrap up today's action with a game against UW-Stevens Point at 11:30 a.m. EST.

No. 8 Luther versus UW-Stevens Point: Luther posted its 13th win in a row defeating UW-Stevens Point 6-4 in today's second of two games at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The victory was also the third over the Pointers this season.

Luther tallied 10 hits led by Ashley Burrows, Bailey Victoria and Addy Pender who all had two each. The Norse jumped to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first and added a run in the second and fifth frames.

The Pointers responded with a run in the first and three in the second that knocked out Norse starter Courtney Cooper. Natalie Stockman took over in the circle in the third and pitched 3 1/3 innings before she was replaced by Samantha Bratland in the middle of the sixth with the bases loaded and one out. Bratland proceeded to strike out the final two batters in the sixth and retired the side in the seventh. Stockman was credited with win, her second of the year and Bratland picked up her first save.

Luther is now 17-1 overall. UW-Stevens Point fell to 11-12.

Luther will wrap up its spring trip to Florida tomorrow with a twin-bill agianst Colby College (ME). First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. EST.
