Luther was defeated by St. Scholastica this afternoon at Mortorelli Gymnasium on the campus of UW-Superior by a final of 92-70.
With the score tied at halftime 40-40, St. Scholastica blistered the nets in the second frame, connecting on 60 percent of their attempts and outscored the Norse 52-30. St. Scholastica also won the battle of the boards 39-29 and was 23-of-28 from the free throw line.
Luther was led by the trio of Rahul Bagga, Jared Nicolaisen and Ray Whitlock. Bagga scored a career high 21 points, that included a 4-for-6 effort from behind the three-point line. Nicolaisen missed just four shots (7-11) en route to 17 points, while Whitlock (5-9) chipped in 11. Nicolaisen also led the team with five rebounds and was tied for the team lead with three assists with James Kappus.
Five Saints tallied double digits led by Brandon Newman who scored a game high 23.
The loss drops Luther's overall record to 2-3. St. Scholastica improved to 3-2.
Luther begins Iowa Conference play at home on Wednesday, Nov. 29, when it hosts Central College. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m.
