Kwanzaa Feast & Celebration

  • Date: Saturday, December 9, 2017
  • Time: 4:00 pm
  • Location: Dahl Centennial Union, Peace Dining Room

Dorothy Winbush Riley writes, “All ethnic groups seek acceptance in society and their place in the universal order. And each group, through holidays, demonstrates its interpretation of human experience: the purpose of life, the ways to achieve them and the goals they wish to attain.” Celebrating Kwanzaa is one of the ways in which African Americans and others of African descent affirm their existence by gathering with family, friends and neighbors, to laugh, to eat special foods, to remember traditions and honor the ancestors. At Luther we celebrate Kwanzaa over 2 days with a Friday chapel and Saturday feast. We also celebrate it as a multicultural event in keeping with our values of diversity and inclusion. However, we work to maintain the essential cultural elements of the tradition even as we make space for peoples of other cultures to participate.

You can sign up for Kwanzaa here. This link will expire on Wednesday the 6th of December. Anyone who wishes to attend Kwanzaa after this date will have to contact the Diversity Center directly.
