Luther remained atop the Iowa Conference standings after defeating Coe College 73-60 tonight in the Regents Center. Holding a slim two-point advantage at the end of the third quarter (50-48), Luther exploded for 23 points in the final frame and held Coe to 12, en route to the victory.
Four Norse tallied double figures. Sarah Holtz produced a career high 16. Laura Hamilton matched Holtz with 16 points, while Claire Marburger and Madison Spence scored 15 and 12 respectively. Holtz and Katie Waller tied for the team lead with eight rebounds each and Spence was next with seven.
Defensively, the Norse held the Kohawks to 33.8 percent and won the battle of the boards 45-36. On the offensive side of the basketball court, Luther shot 48.4 percent, that included a 4-for-8 effort from behind the three-point line.
Luther is now 3-0 in the Iowa Conference, 5-4 overall. Coe fell to 1-2 in league play, 2-4 overall.
Luther returns to action this Saturday, Dec. 9 when it will travel to UW-River Falls. Start time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
