Luther traveled to Dubuque, Iowa and swept Loras College 14-3, 8-0 (5) in the conference opener for both clubs.
In game one, leading 3-2 entering the top of the fifth, Luther scored five runs on two hits and had some help from the Duhawks as they committed two errors. The Norse finished their at-bats scoring four in the seventh.
Carli Radil and Ashley Burrows both drove in four runs, while Katie Wieland drove in two. Radil almost hit for the cycle as she went 3-for-4 that included a double in the second, an RBI triple in the third and a three-run home run in the seventh. She also walked in the fifth and grounded out to short stop in the sixth.
Burrows batting in the ninth slot, was 4-for-4 driving in a run in the second and fourth frames and two in the fifth. Wieland hit a solo home run to left field to start the sixth and had an RBI single in the seventh. Alise Miller and Anna Strien also had multiple hit games producing two hits each
Amanda Witzlib (10-0) was credited with the win. Witzlib allowed three runs on five hits, walked two and struck out two. Annie Versnik pitched the final two innings and allowed one run on two hits, walked four and struck out one.
In game two, Topanga Skiles (6-0) tossed a three-hit shutout. Skiles faced 21 batters, walked two and struck out three.
The Norse scored two in the second and three in both the fourth and fifth innings. Burrows and Radil continued to swing hot bats as they both went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Radil hit her fourth home run on the year, a solo to right field in the fifth. Lead-off hitter Miranda McCay drove in two runs in the fifth on a double to right-center.
No. 5 Luther is now 22-0, while Loras fell to 11-11.
Luther returns to Iowa Conference action this Saturday when it will travel to Coe College. This doubleheader will begin at 2:00 p.m.
