Jake Martin produced the game winner with five seconds left, giving Luther a 66-64 victory over league leading Buena Vista University here in the Regents Center.
The Norse held a 33-22 halftime lead and increased their advantage to 16 four minutes in to the second frame. Buena Vista battled back and took the lead (60-58) with a little over five minutes to play thanks to a 34-16 run. Back-to-back three pointers by Martin and Christian Wright gave the Norse a 64-60 lead at the 4:07 mark. A couple of free throws by the Beavers Cole Darrow and a jumper by Kennedy Drey leveled the game for the third and final time (64-64) at 1:28. The Beavers had two chances to take the lead down the stretch, but came up short setting up Martin's game winner.
Martin had another big night producing a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Leyton Bohr also reached double digits with 10, while Nathan Meyer and Wright both chipped in nine.
Buena Vista was led by Kennedy Drey who also produced a double-double. Drey tallied 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
The win was Luther's second in a row. The Norse snapped the Beavers seven game win streak and improved to 4-6, 8-13. Buena Vista remains atop the league standings with a mark of 8-2, 15-6.
Luther travels to Loras College next Wednesday, Feb. 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
