Luther dropped its conference opener to Wartburg 67-57 tonight in Waverly. After trailing the Knights by three 35-32 at halftime, the Norse closed to within two (44-42) midway through the second frame. The next five minutes saw Wartburg put together a 12-3 run, extending its lead to 58-47, its largest of the evening. Luther responded with an 8-3 run and closed to withing six (61-55) with 30 seconds left on the clock, but it proved to be as close as the Norse would get the rest of the way.
Aaron Huber led the Norse scoring a career high 18 points. Jake Martin was next recording a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Wartburg was led by Jordan Cannon and Marc Ellis who tallied 20 and 17 points respectively.
The loss drops Luther's overall record to 4-8. Wartburg snapped a two-game losing streak an improved to 8-4.
Luther returns to action this Saturday when it will travel to Central College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
