Liberal Arts Championships

Day One Results (Wednesday): Women's one-meter diving was held tonight and got things stated for the 2015 Liberal Arts Championships. Luther divers Megan Broadbent (356.15) placed third. Carissa Fulter (382.70) of U of Minnesota-Morris placed first and Coe's Jasmine Deng (365.65) was the runner-up.

Elizabeth Bonin (307.90) and Katy Roets (286.65) placed fifth and eighth respectively.

Thursday the first swimming events will begin with the prelims starting at 10:00 a.m. Finals will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Day One Complete Results

Day Two Results (Thursday): Following the first full day of swimming events, Luther sits atop the leader board with 297 points. Franklin College is a distant second with 160, followed by University of Minnesota-Morris with 136.5.

Clare Slagel and Jackie Hughes headlined today's action establishing new school records. Slagel won the 500 freestyle (4:57.67) setting a new school and Liberal Arts records. Her time was also a B-Cut qualifying mark for the NCAA III National Championships. Slagel was one of five Norse swimmers that advanced to the A-Finals in this event.

Hughes established a new school record in the 200 IM (2:08.76) while placing first in this event. Right behind her was Pilar Dritz (2:10.61) whose time ranked third on Luther's all-time list.

Leah Barkema placed second in the 50 freestyle (24.66) posting the fifth fastest time in school history.

The Norse also won the 200 freestyle relay and finished the day with a first place finish in the 400 medley relay. Slagel, Katie Storey, Lexi Scharmer and Barkema posted the third fastest time (3:55.14) in school history in the 400 medley relay.

Complete Results Day Two

Day Three Results (Friday): Luther extended its lead by 234 points at the conclusion of the second day of swimming competition. Luther enters into the final day of competition with 650 points, followed by Franklin College with 416.

Jackie Hughes, Lexi Scharmer and Clare Slagel led the Norse with individual first place finishes. Hughes set a school record, Liberal Arts record and posted a B-Cut qualifying mark in the 400 IM (4:30.59). Scharmer won the 100 fly (58.14), and Slagel posted a B-cut in the 100 backstroke (55.02).

Also advancing to the A-finals and where they placed included Pilar Dritz (400 IM - 2nd), Coriann Dorgay (400 IM - 7th); Emily Anderson (100 fly - 4th); Sam Kraft (200 free - 2nd), Elizabeth Reed (200 free - 4th), Megan Jelinski (200 free - 5th), Connor Hoff (200 free - 6th); and Scharmer (100 back - 2nd).

The 200 medley relay foursome of Slagel, Katie Storey, Scharmer and Leah Barkema got this started with a first place finish. The night ended with the 800 freestyle relay of Slagel, Hughes, Dritz and Kraft doing the same.

Complete Day Three Results

Final Day Results (Saturday): Luther won the team title of the Liberal Arts Championships for the ninth year in a row. The Norse posted a team total of 892.5 finishing 254.5 points ahead of runner-up Franklin College. 

Clare Slagel was named the Women's Swimmer of the Meet for the third time in as many years. 

In today's action, Slagel captured the 200 backstroke title with a B-cut time of 2:00.28.

The 400 freestyle relay of Slagel, Sam Kraft, Katie Storey and Leah Barkema wrapped up the competition with a first place time of 3:34.90.

Advancing to the A-finals and where they placed included, Elizabeth Reed (1650 free - 2nd), Sofie Wallock (1650 free - 4th), Megan Jelinski (1650 free - 5th); Pilar Dritz (200 back - 3rd), Coriann Dorgay (200 back - 6th), Kyrie Dailey (200 back - 8th); Leah Barkema (100 free - 2nd), Kraft (100 free - 4th), Emily Anderson (100 free - 7th); Jackie Hughes (200 breaststroke - 2nd); and Lexi Scharmer (200 fly - 2nd).
