Luther College celebrated 50 Years of Women's Varsity athletics today and the Norse provided a 63-44 victory for the home crowd. The win was key as the Norse are now tied for first place with a mark of 9-3, thanks to Wartburg defeating Dubuque 64-57 in Waverly.
Prior to the game Luther seniors Carrie Kilen, Hayley Pirsig and Meagan Koepnick presented President Paula Carlson with a game jersey with the number 10, representing her being the 10th president of Luther College.
Luther jumped out to a 38-22 halftime lead and was never really challenged as Head Coach Amanda Bailey emptied her bench. Kylie Romeo produced a double-double in 20 minutes, scoring 10 points and collecting a game high 10 rebounds. Moran Lonning led all scorers with 14. Brenna Hafner was next with nine.
The win was the fourth in a row for the Norse who improved to 19-4, their best start since the 2006-07 campaign. Central falls to 0-12 in league play, 9-14 overall.
Luther returns to action on Wednesday for the final regular season home game of the year. The Norse will host the Knights of Wartburg College at 6:00 p.m.
