Coe College defeated Luther 73-62 this afternoon in Cedar Rapids. The Kohawks took control midway through the first half when they put together a 23-13 run and led 34-25 at halftime and never trailed the rest of the game.
Down by as many as 14 in the second half, the Norse battled back and pulled to within three (58-61) with a little over three minutes remaining, but it proved to be as close as they would get the rest of the way.
Coe held Luther to 34 percent and dominated the boards 50-30 producing 20 second chance points. The Kohawks bench also outscored the Norse bench 25-6.
Moran Lonning led all scorers with 19 points. Kylie Romeo also tallied double digits with 15.
Megan Hayes led the Kohawks with 18, while Allie Wirth and Courteney McCrary chipped in 13 and 11 respectively.
The loss drops Luther (15-4) into a two-way tied for third place in the league standing with with Loras at 5-3. Coe (13-6) is alone in second with a mark of 6-2, one game behind Dubuque (7-1).
Luther returns home on Wednesday, Feb. 4 and will host Simpson College at 6:00 p.m.
