Luther and Dubuque split today's final two games of the four-game series. The Spartans won game one 1-0 and Luther won game two 9-4.
In game one, Luther's Danny Smith (1-3) and Dubuque's Josh Eastman (1-3) put on a good old fashion pitchers dual. Both went the distance on the mound and both allowed just two hits. Unfortunately for Smith, the Spartans scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth, after the Norse committed two errors.
In the nightcap, the Norse knocked out Spartan starter Tyler Trifiletti after one and two-thirds innings. The Norse scored four runs in the top half of the second, added two more in the third and put three runs on the score board in the fourth.
Blake Peterson (2-1) was credited with the win. Peterson allowed two runs on three hits in five innings of work.
The split gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 6-10, 10-14 overall. Dubuque is now 6-12 in league play, 8-18 overall.
