Violoncellist Christopher Hutton will give a guest recital at 9:00 p.m. Monday, October 30th, in the Noble Recital Hall of Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the Luther College campus.

Hutton's recital, "Reflecting BACH," features Bach's Suites for Solo Violoncello, along with composers who were later inspired by Bach. The project, which began with a recital in 2016, has expanded to performances in 15 states and a 10-recital tour in New Zealand.

His performance begins with "Suite Sampler," by Bach, a sample of one movement from each of Bach's six cello suites. He'll perform Suite for Cello No. 1, Op. 72 by Benjamin Britten, and close the performance with "Fancy on a Bach Air," by John Corigliano.

A native of Wellington, New Zealand, Hutton is an associate professor of violoncello at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. He's performed solo and chamber music recitals in New Zealand, the United States and Europe. The cellist in Poinsett Piano Trio, he's recorded for New Zealand's Concert FM and Germany's SWF Radio. Hutton was the co-principal cellist of the New World Symphony Orchestra, was a member of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and has performed with various orchestras in the United States.

Hutton earned his bachelor's degree from Boston University and earned a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music, New York. While a student at Eastman, he taught at the University of Rochester and Eastman's Community Education Division. Prior to joining the faculty at Furman in 2003, he taught at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the University of Delaware and the Eastern Music Festival.
